Many people think that a wings tattoo or even a butterfly tattoo is pretty basic and that they do not have to put a lot of thought into it's design. This could not be further from the truth. Any tattoo, no matter the design, style, color, shape or size needs to be thoroughly planned out. A tattoo that is not planned out is often times a tattoo that is regretted later in the future. If that is not something you want to deal with, it is important to make sure that you are doing everything you can to make sure that you are ending up with the perfect design.
Size Is Important
When designing your wings tattoo, you want to be careful that the design is the perfect size. If it is too large, there is going to be a need for a lot of various details that you might not be ready for. If it is too small, there may not be enough details to really show off the wings tattoo. Even a simply butterfly tattoo needs to be the perfect size. In addition, if you already know where the placement will be, it is important to make sure that you are taking the placement into consideration when you are thinking about the size.
Open or Partly Closed Wings
When many people think about getting a wings tattoo, or even a butterfly tattoo for that matter, they automatically picture it in their mind to be an open design. This just seems to be the fall back design that everyone goes to. Even though this is the case, it is not the only design out there. There are closed wing and partially closed wings tattoos out there. Depending on what you want the meaning of your tattoo to be, you might want something a little different from the normal design. Then again, you have to think about what the finished product will look like while you are designing it. Will everyone be able to tell that it is a wings tattoo that you have?
Drawing It Out
One of the biggest mistakes you can make it to think of a butterfly tattoo or wings tattoo design in your head, go to the local tattoo shop and simply ask for them to draw something up and just go with that. Nine times out of ten, they will not be able to draw exactly what you have in your head for the simple reason that they are not you and they are just trying to guess what you want. Do you really want to live the rest of your life with a tattoo that the artist guessed on for the design?
It is highly important to make sure that you are drawing the tattoo out. If your art skills are not up to par, you can do a rough sketch and then pay someone with more artistic talent to fix it for you. Do not accept a design that is not what you had in mind. Keep having it drawn out until the design is absolutely perfect.
Not Everything That Looks Good on Paper Looks Good on Skin
Something that many people have a hard time getting past is that not everything that looks good on paper looks good on the skin. Because of this, you really want to make sure that you are designing a wings tattoo that is going to complement your body type, your style and your skin tone. Believe it or not, some tattoos even look better on one person than on another. Even the cutest wings tattoo is forever so you want to make sure that you are taking your time with the design.
Even though you may have never thought that there would be so much that would go into the design of a wings tattoo or a butterfly tattoo, it is better that you know now. The last thing you want to do is to place a tattoo on your body that is less that what you thought it would be.
